Jean Reno

Juan Moreno y Herrera-Jiménez, better known as Jean Reno, entered the world in 1948 in Casablanca, French Morocco, to parents hailing from Andalusia. A transition to France at age 17 facilitated his entry into the Cours Simon School of Drama, eventually establishing him as a prominent figure in both French and international cinematic productions.

Early Career and Collaboration

Standing at 1.88 meters, Reno was frequently cast in physically imposing roles during his initial years in the industry. His trajectory shifted significantly through a sustained creative partnership with director Luc Besson. Their collaboration yielded notable critical and commercial successes including the 1983 film Le Dernier Combat, the 1990 project La Femme Nikita, and the acclaimed 1994 production Léon: The Professional.

International Expansion

Reno leveraged his initial success to secure roles in major American studio films. His international filmography encompasses Mission: Impossible in 1996, alongside appearances in Ronin and Godzilla in 1998. He took on the role of Captain Bezu Fache in the 2006 adaptation of The Da Vinci Code and played Gilbert Ponton in the remake of The Pink Panther and its subsequent sequel.

Civic and Artistic Pursuits

Beyond acting, Reno served as a municipal councillor starting in 2020. His creative output expanded into literature with the 2024 publication of his first novel, Emma, followed by the 2026 sequel L'Évasion. He also provided his likeness and voice for the video game Onimusha 3: Demon Siege and portrayed Doraemon for a Toyota advertising campaign in Japan.
