Academic and Military Formation
Born in Bad Nauheim in 1983, Moghbeli relocated to the United States in 1984. She completed her secondary education at Baldwin Senior High School before enrolling at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. There, she earned a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering with information technology while participating in volleyball, lacrosse, and basketball. Commissioned into the United States Marine Corps in 2005, she subsequently earned a master's degree in aerospace engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School. Her military trajectory included training at the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School at Patuxent River, Maryland, which qualified her as a helicopter test pilot with VMX-1 at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma.

Moghbeli built her operational foundation through three overseas deployments within the Marine Corps, executing 150 combat missions, including multiple sorties in Afghanistan. By 2019, she had surpassed 2,000 flight hours. Her technical proficiency in aviation served as the precursor to her selection by NASA in June 2017. Following two years of intensive training, she graduated from the Astronaut Candidate Training Program in January 2020, achieving eligibility for diverse spaceflight missions, ranging from International Space Station rotations to potential lunar and Martian exploration objectives.
Space Station Tenure
In August 2023, Moghbeli launched as commander of the SpaceX Crew-7 mission. During her 199-day duration on the International Space Station, she facilitated scientific research and technical operations. The mission concluded in March 2024 when the crew splashed down off the Florida coast, having completed 3,184 orbits of Earth. Beyond her orbital achievements, she remains engaged in terrestrial exploration training, including her participation in the 2025 ESA CAVES course conducted in the Matese mountains of the Italian Apennines.
