Gunn entered the industry through Troma Entertainment in 1996, co-writing Tromeo and Juliet. During this period, he also fronted the band The Icons as lead vocalist, releasing the album Mom, We Like It Here on Earth in 1994. By 2000, he had written and produced The Specials. His screenwriting credits soon expanded to major studio projects, including the 2002 adaptation of Scooby-Doo and the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead.
Directorial Progression
He made his directorial debut with the 2006 horror-comedy Slither. His filmography continued with the 2010 dark comedy Super and the 2013 anthology film Movie 43.
