Jacques Doillon

The 1989 feature The 15 Year Old Girl marked a significant point in the career of French director Jacques Doillon, serving as an official selection for the 16th Moscow International Film Festival. Born in Paris in 1944, Doillon established himself as a versatile figure within the French film industry, working extensively as a screenwriter, producer, and film editor.

Early Career and Festival Recognition

Educated at the Lycée Voltaire in Paris, Doillon transitioned into professional filmmaking through roles as an actor and director. Throughout the 1990s, his work garnered attention at international festivals. His 1990 project La vengeance d'une femme appeared at the 40th Berlin International Film Festival, and his subsequent production, Le Petit Criminel, secured an Honourable Mention at the 41st edition of the same event. In 1993, he received the Blue Angel Award at the 43rd Berlin International Film Festival for his film Le Jeune Werther. His 1998 feature Trop (peu) d'amour was also featured at the 48th Berlin International Film Festival.

Professional Accolades

Doillon's contributions to French cinema were recognized with several industry honors. In 1990, he was awarded the Louis Delluc Prize. His work also received the Prix France Culture Cinéma in 2004. Beyond his directing credits, his professional portfolio includes writing and editing, with past nominations for the César Award for Best Director and the César Award for Best Original Screenplay or Adaptation.

Criminal Investigations and Allegations

In February 2024, actress Judith Godrèche filed a criminal complaint against Doillon, alleging rape during the production of The 15 Year Old Girl. Following this, other actresses including Isild Le Besco and Anna Mouglalis publicly accused the director of sexual abuse and blackmail related to auditions and film sets. In July 2024, Doillon and fellow director Benoit Jacquot were taken into custody by the Juvenile Protection Brigade in Paris for questioning. Doillon was released after forty-eight hours without charge for medical reasons. Additional criminal complaints were filed by Joe Rohanne, Hélène M., and Aurélie Le Roc'h, citing allegations of rape and sexual assault spanning from 1998 to 2012. The Paris prosecutor's office continues to assess the investigation.
