Ishak Belfodil

Algerian and French footballer

The career of Ishak Belfodil commenced within the Parisian suburbs at OSC Elancourt, marking the start of a journey through various European football leagues. Born in Mostaganem in 1992, the striker navigated a path through youth systems including Trappes FC and Paris Saint-Germain before establishing a professional footprint in France, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Qatar, and Azerbaijan.

Formative Years in France

Belfodil spent his early youth development at Trappes FC, though he missed selection for the Clairefontaine academy. A brief stint at Paris Saint-Germain preceded a move to AC Boulogne Billencourt in 2004. By 2007, he moved to Clermont Foot, where his performance in the under-16 team drew attention from Lyon, Chelsea, and Manchester United. Lyon secured his services in November 2008 with a youth contract, and he made his senior debut in August 2009 against Auxerre.

Italian Professional Tenure

In 2012, Belfodil joined Serie A club Parma for 2.5 million euros following a loan period at Bologna. His first season at Parma saw him score eight goals across league play. This form led to a 2013 transfer to Inter Milan, where he was assigned the number 7 shirt. His time at Inter proved difficult, resulting in a loan to Livorno in 2014. After Parma bought back his full contract in June 2014, the club declared bankruptcy, leading Belfodil to terminate his agreement in May 2015.

European and International Movement

Belfodil transitioned to the UAE club Baniyas in 2015, followed by a one-year stint at Standard Liège in 2016. A loan to Werder Bremen in 2017 preceded a move to TSG Hoffenheim in 2018. During his time at Hoffenheim, he contributed two goals in a match against the club from Dortmund. Subsequent moves took him to Al-Gharafa in Qatar in 2022 and Sabah in Azerbaijan in 2023.

International Representation

Holding dual citizenship in France and Algeria, Belfodil initially sought to represent Algeria as a youth player. After acquiring French nationality, he participated in the 2009 UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship with France. He later participated in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations for Algeria. Throughout his life and career, he has practiced Islam.
