Athletic Career
Beginning his international tenure during a 1971 Test series against England, Khan remained active in cricket until the 1992 World Cup final. Khan entered the National Assembly of Pakistan in 2002. In 2018, he achieved a record by winning five constituencies in the general election, facilitating his appointment as prime minister. His administration launched welfare programs during the COVID-19 pandemic and engaged in international diplomacy, including a 2022 visit to Moscow. His term concluded in April 2022 following a no-confidence motion.
Legal Proceedings
Since leaving office, Khan has faced various legal challenges, including the Toshakhana and Al-Qadir Trust cases. The Election Commission barred him from holding elected office in October 2022. Following an arrest in May 2023 and subsequent detention, he received sentences of 14 years and 17 years in separate cases. He has been held at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
