Early Life and Academic Formation
Born in 1892 in Neustadt an der Weinstraße, Germany, Künneth pursued his academic interests at the University of Erlangen–Nuremberg. During the winter semester of 1910/11, he became a member of the students' fraternity now known as the Akademisch-Musikalische Verbindung Fridericiana Erlangen. He held several posts within this organization throughout his student years and after departing the university in 1914.

Künneth served during the First World War, an experience that included his capture by British forces. Following his military service and the completion of his doctorate in 1922, he transitioned into education. From 1923, he worked as a teacher at secondary schools located in Kronach and Erlangen. His later career path involved a return to higher education, where he held the position of professor at the University of Erlangen.
Recognition and Legacy
In 1964, the Federal Republic of Germany awarded Künneth the Cross of the Order of Merit, the highest decoration in the country. This honor recognized his contributions to his discipline. Künneth died in Erlangen in 1975 at the age of 83, leaving behind an academic legacy centered on his work in topology, a field where his findings endure as fundamental constants in geometric inquiry.
