Early Career and Bosch Tenure
After completing a two-year banking apprenticeship and gaining experience in wholesale, Walz joined the Robert Bosch company in 1912. He initially served as a commercial administrator and personal secretary to Robert Bosch, managing assets. His role expanded significantly in 1919 when he earned a seat on the company's supervisory board, eventually leading the entire organization for nearly four decades.

Walz joined the Nazi Party in 1933, holding membership number 3,433,104, and also maintained a membership in the Schutzstaffel with membership number 155,369. Despite these formal ties, he participated in the Freundeskreis der Wirtschaft, where he drew scrutiny from the Sicherheitsdienst due to his associations with Jewish figures and his membership in the Association for the Defense against Anti-Semitism. By late 1943 or early 1944, he was appointed a Wehrwirtschaftsführer.
Humanitarian Efforts and Post-War Recognition
Between 1938 and 1940, Walz financed the emigration of Jewish individuals, specifically acting on behalf of Karl Adler. This work led to his designation as Righteous Among the Nations by Israel in 1969. In the post-war era, his professional stature continued to grow, evidenced by the receipt of the Knight Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1953. He later served as the first treasurer for the Friedrich Naumann Foundation in 1958 and 1959.
