A professional association football career starting in 2016 led Hamza Mendyl from the reserve squads of Lille to the top tier of European leagues. Born in Casablanca on 21 October 1997, the Moroccan left-back holds dual citizenship with the Ivory Coast, representing his nation of birth on the international stage across multiple major tournaments.
Early Development and Lille
Mendyl joined Lille following an initial one-season loan agreement in March 2016, where he featured for the club's B team in 26 matches. He signed his inaugural professional contract in 2017, securing a deal until 30 June 2021. His competitive debut for the senior team occurred on 18 February 2017 during a Ligue 1 fixture against Caen.
