Early Career and Move to Galatasaray
Before his long-term tenure in Istanbul, Balta played for Hertha Berlin II and Manisaspor. In September 2007, he moved to Galatasaray in a transfer deal that involved the exchange of Ferhat Öztorun and the loaning of Aydın Yılmaz and Anıl Karaer. He quickly established himself, scoring critical goals and securing his first league championship in his debut season with the club.

Following the appointment of Fatih Terim for the 2011–12 season, Balta improved his defensive contributions and remained a consistent presence in the squad. His performance reached a peak during a derby against Fenerbahçe, where he scored a left-foot volley to equalize the match. This period of stability under Terim resulted in multiple Süper Lig titles and domestic cup victories.
International Representation
Balta debuted for the national team in April 2006 during a friendly against Azerbaijan. He became a fixture in the squad during the UEFA Euro 2008 qualifying campaign, contributing to the victories against Norway and Bosnia-Herzegovina. He was a starting player throughout Turkey's run to the semi-finals at the tournament in Austria and Switzerland and later appeared in the UEFA Euro 2016 competition.
Transition to Coaching
After departing Galatasaray as a player at the start of the 2018–19 season, Balta moved into administrative and technical roles. On 8 February 2022, he began serving as the Assistant Administrative Director for the Football A Team, later transitioning to Technical Director of the Galatasaray Under-19 squad. By July 4, 2025, he parted ways with the youth program and assumed the role of Turkish National Team Assistant Coach.
