In 1929, Prezzolini relocated to the United States to join the faculty at Columbia University in New York City. His role involved leading the university's Casa Italiana, an institution dedicated to Italian studies. Throughout his tenure in America, he continued to write extensively in both Italian and English, producing works such as Come gli Americani scoprirono l'Italia, 1750-1850 in 1933 and The Legacy of Italy in 1948.
Later Years and Legacy
Upon returning to Italy, Prezzolini continued his prolific output, eventually settling in Lugano, Switzerland. His late-career publications, including Manifesto dei conservatori in 1972 and Storia tascabile della letteratura italiana in 1976, reflect his sustained engagement with politics and history. He received the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic before his death in 1982.
