Academic Foundations and Early Career
Born in 1958 in Gyumri, Karapetyan completed his undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics at Yerevan State University between 1975 and 1980, earning an honors diploma. He continued his academic progression at the same institution, entering the Department of Differential Equations and Functional Analysis for his PhD studies in 1980. By 1983, he had completed his pre-defense while simultaneously working as an assistant in the Department of Numerical Analysis.

Karapetyan received his docent rank in 1987. During his tenure at Yerevan State University, he served as Deputy Dean and subsequently Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Applied Mathematics, and acted as the faculty's Scientific Secretary from 1994 to 2000. Beyond university administration, he influenced mathematics education by chairing the Mathematics Olympiad Committee of Armenia from 1997 to 1999.
Advancement at Russian-Armenian University
In 2002, Karapetyan joined the Russian-Armenian University, where he led the Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Modeling until May 2018. He obtained his Doctor of Sciences in Physics and Mathematics in 2008, the same year he was named a Distinguished Professor. His later administrative roles included serving as deputy director of the Institute of Mathematics and High Technology and eventually directing the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics.
Scientific Contribution and Publications
His research addressed complex challenges in hypoelliptic and quasi-elliptic equations, producing numerous journal articles including work on Galerkin approximations and Liouville-type theorems.
