Early Development and Training
Born on 26 October 1976 in Kampala, Uganda, Kasumba relocated to Essen, Germany, for her formative years. Her interest in the performing arts solidified at age 12 after viewing a production of Starlight Express. She pursued professional training at the Fontys School of the Arts in Tilburg, the Netherlands, where she attained a degree encompassing acting, singing, and dancing. Her command of German, English, and Dutch facilitated a multilingual professional trajectory.

Before achieving international film recognition, Kasumba established a career in musical theatre. While still a student, she secured her debut film role in the Dutch production Ik ook van jou. Upon graduation, she joined casts for various international productions, including Chicago, Cats, West Side Story, Evita, and Beauty and the Beast. She performed the title role in the German premiere of Aida and appeared as Lisa in the debut German cast of Mamma Mia.
Expansion into Cinema and Television
Kasumba maintains a portfolio across diverse genres and territories. Her film credits include the role of Senator Acantha in the 2017 feature Wonder Woman. In the same year, she portrayed the Wicked Witch of the East in the NBC series Emerald City. Her voice work includes the 2019 film The Lion King, where she performed as Shenzi alongside Keegan-Michael Key and Eric André. She is a member of the Deutsche Filmakademie.
