This business growth provided him with significant personal wealth and established the credibility required for his subsequent transition into the management of the Benetton Formula racing team.
Formula One Leadership
Briatore assumed full control of Benetton Formula in 1991 after initially joining to oversee commercial interests. Despite a self-described lack of technical automotive knowledge, he orchestrated the recruitment of engineers such as Rory Byrne, Pat Symonds, and Ross Brawn to build a competitive team. His tenure involved controversial tactics, including blocking Williams from competing in 1993 to force concessions on cost-control measures.
