Professional Background
Born in Tallinn in 1968, Ilves completed her secondary education at Saku Gymnasium in 1986. She later pursued medical studies at the University of Tartu, graduating with a bachelor's degree in 1993. Her early career shifted away from clinical medicine into the communications sector. From 1996 to 2001, she served as the marketing director for the newspaper Eesti Päevaleht before transitioning to Enterprise Estonia.

During her marriage to Toomas Hendrik Ilves, she participated in numerous international state visits and supported initiatives focused on public health and the advancement of women. In 2005, she initiated a project to develop a guesthouse at the historical Ärma farm in Abja Parish. She also held the presidency of the Estonian Rollerskating Federation from 2008 to 2014.
Recognition and International Honors
Ilves received several international state honors during her public tenure. These include the Grand Cross of the Order of the Crown, the Order of the Three Stars, the Order of the Star of Romania, and the Order of the Tribute to the Republic in 2012. Additionally, she was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic in 2007, the Grand Cross 1st class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2013, and the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland in 2014.
