Jepkorir grew up in Eldama Ravine as one of nine children born to parents who worked as farmers. She began training for competitive running at age 15 while attending high school. In 2004, she finished seventh in the long race at the World Cross Country Championships, contributing to a team silver medal for Kenya. She secured a victory at the Parelloop 10K in the Netherlands in 2005. The following year, she helped the Kenyan team win the team competition at the World Road Running Championships, finishing fourteenth individually. In 2007, she won the Cross Internacional de la Constitución, followed by victories at the Cursa de Bombers 10K in Barcelona in 2007 and 2008.
Steeplechase Records and Championship Success
Jepkorir significantly impacted the steeplechase record books during 2007 and 2008. On 15 June 2007, she ran the 3000m steeplechase in 9:19.44 at the Bislett Games in Oslo, setting a new Kenyan record. By 2 July 2007 in Athens, she reduced her time to 9:14.52, earning an African and Commonwealth record. She earned a bronze medal at the 2007 World Championships. In 2008, she lowered her African record further to 9:11.18 in Huelva, Spain, before achieving her career-best time of 9:07.41 at the Beijing Olympics.
Later Career and Personal Life
Her performance declined following her 2008 peak. After missing qualification for the 2009 World Championships, her competitive output decreased. In January 2011, she placed second at the Cross de San Sebastián, where her husband, runner Josphat Kiprono Menjo, also competed. Her track activity in 2011 was limited to a victory in Cáceres. She eventually failed to qualify for the Kenyan Olympic team in 2012, finishing her trial race in 10:13.28.
