Rossum made her television debut in 1997 on the soap opera As the World Turns. Her film career expanded with roles in the 2000 feature Songcatcher and Clint Eastwood’s 2003 film Mystic River. She gained significant recognition for her portrayal of Christine Daaé in the 2004 adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera, earning a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress. Further film appearances during this period included Poseidon and Dragonball: Evolution.
The Shameless Era
Between 2011 and 2019, Rossum starred as Fiona Gallagher in the Showtime series Shameless. As the eldest sibling, her character served as the primary guardian for her family. During her tenure, she also transitioned into production and direction, notably directing the seventh season episode titled I Am a Storm.
