Professional Origins
Diller earned a B.Arch degree from the Cooper Union School of Architecture in 1979. During her time there, she worked under the tutelage of Ricardo Scofidio, whom she later married. Following her graduation, she held an assistant professorship before establishing her architectural practice. Her collaborative work evolved from conceptual architecture into the design of major cultural and educational institutions.

Her practice has completed a wide range of structures across the globe, including the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston and the Broad Museum in Los Angeles. In New York City, her contributions include 15 Hudson Yards, the design of The Shed, and multiple renovations to the Museum of Modern Art and Lincoln Center. The firm has also worked on academic facilities at Brown University, Stanford University, and Columbia University. Additional international projects include the Blur Building for the Swiss Expo and proposals for a cinema museum in Rio de Janeiro.
Research and Writing
Beyond her design work, Diller acts as an architecture professor at Princeton University. Her scholarly output examines the intersection of technology and the built environment. In the 2012 book Lincoln Center Inside Out: An Architectural Account, she documents the renovation process of a major civic site. She also participated in the 2019 work Bodybuilding: Architecture and Performance and collaborated with Anthony Vidler on research concerning the agency of architectural technology.
Recognition and Awards
Diller received the MacArthur Foundation fellowship in 1999 and was the recipient of the Wolf Prize in Architecture in 2022. Her accolades include the Jane Drew Prize, the Women in Architecture Award, and the Smithsonian Institution National Design Award. She was named to the Time 100 list in 2018. She holds membership in the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
