Born in 1947 in Sovetskaya Gavan, Novikova-Belova began her ascent to international prominence by competing at the 1968, 1972, 1976, and 1980 Olympics. Her medal tally includes four gold, one silver, and one bronze. Beyond the Olympic arena, she secured eight world titles, earning an individual victory in 1969 and seven additional titles as a member of the Soviet team between 1970 and 1979. During the 1976 competition, she narrowly missed a fifth gold medal after a defeat in her final pool match.

Following her graduation from the Minsk Institute of Pedagogy in 1970, where she earned a PhD, Novikova-Belova transitioned into the roles of coach and university teacher. She has held academic and professional positions at the Maxim Tank Belarusian State Pedagogical University and the Belarusian State University of Physical Culture, contributing to the development of future athletes and scholars.
Recognition and Legacy
Her career has been marked by numerous decorations, including the Order of Friendship of Peoples, the Order of the Badge of Honour, and the Order of Fatherland 3rd Class. In 1994, she received the title of Honoured Coach of Belarus. She was named an honorary citizen of Minsk in 2007, the same year she was awarded the Pierre de Coubertin Medal. Previously, in 1997, she received the Olympic Order in Silver. Astronomers acknowledged her influence by naming the Jovian asteroid 24426 Belova in her honour on 14 May 2021.
