Early Athletic Development
Raised in Finsbury Park, Chambers benefitted from an athletic family background. Under the guidance of coach Selwyn Philbert, he secured a victory in the intermediate 100 metres at the 1994 English Schools' Athletic Association Championships. By 1997, he established a world junior record of 10.06 seconds. Following a silver medal at the 1998 European Championships, he became the second European sprinter to finish under ten seconds, recording 9.99 seconds in Nuremberg.

At the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Chambers placed fourth in the 100 metres, serving as the top European performer. During the 2001 World Championships, he broke the ten-second barrier twice. His career trajectory encountered a significant interruption in 2003 when he received a two-year ban for testing positive for the banned substance THG, resulting in the forfeiture of his 2002 European title and record.
Professional Transition and Later Years
Following his return to competition in 2006, Chambers joined the Hamburg Sea Devils in NFL Europa and participated in rugby league trials. His sprinting career remained active, yielding a gold medal in the 4x100 metre relay at the 2006 European Championships and a 2010 World Indoor Championship title in the 60 metres. After a legal challenge to his lifetime Olympic ban, he competed in the 2012 London Olympics.
