Rodolfo Vera Quizon, known to millions as Dolphy, began his ascent in the Filipino entertainment industry selling peanuts and watermelon seeds at local cinemas during his youth. This early exposure to the silver screen provided an informal education that propelled him to become the definitive face of Philippine comedy across a career spanning over six decades.
Early Performance and Transitions
Born on July 25, 1928, in Tondo, Manila, Quizon navigated the hardships of the Japanese occupation by performing at the Avenue, Lyric, and Orient theaters. Initially performing under the stage name Golay, he joined the chorus line at age 17. By 19, he secured his first film role in Dugo at Bayan, supported by Fernando Poe Sr., which marked his transition into the professional acting circuit.
