Born in Nairobi in 1985, he emerged from the Kenyan football system to build a lengthy professional career across the Middle East, France, and his domestic league, becoming a notable figure in association football.
Early Career and Move to Qatar
Oliech developed his skills at Kakamega School and played for Dagoretti Santos and Mathare United. In 2003, he moved to the Qatari club Al-Arabi, where he played until late 2005. During this time, he declined an offer to adopt Qatari citizenship. The Guardian included him on a list of the world's most promising young players in 2004, alongside peers like Wayne Rooney.

In 2005, Oliech signed a four-year contract with FC Nantes for $3.7 million. Following a knee injury, he debuted in March 2006. After Nantes was relegated in 2007, he moved to Auxerre on loan before securing a permanent transfer. He remained with Auxerre until 2013, notably scoring a hat-trick against Sochaux in 16 minutes in 2011. He later joined Ajaccio in 2013, scoring on his debut against Evian Thonon Gaillard.
International and Domestic Conclusion
His international career began in 2002 during a match against Nigeria. He was instrumental in Kenya's qualification for the 2004 African Cup of Nations, netting the decisive goal against Cape Verde. He retired from international duty in 2016. In 2019, at age 33, he signed a two-year contract with Gor Mahia, receiving a reported monthly fee of KSh.350,000.
