The 2013 horror short film Lights Out, which David F. Sandberg produced and released under the pseudonym "ponysmasher," served as the catalyst for his transition from a Swedish online content creator to a feature-length Hollywood director. By utilizing low-budget production methods, he secured a path from Jönköping to major cinematic studio projects within three years of his viral success.
