Daniel Amartey

Ghanaian association football player

Daniel Amartey, a Ghanaian professional footballer born in Accra on 21 December 1994, emerged from the International Allies youth academy to build an extensive career across European leagues. Known for his versatility as both a defender and a midfielder, he has represented clubs in Sweden, Denmark, England, and Turkey while maintaining a long-standing commitment to the Ghana national team.

Early Development and Swedish Breakthrough

Scouted by Magnus Pehrsson at sixteen, Amartey joined Djurgårdens IF after gaining experience with the club's youth setup. His competitive debut occurred in the Svenska Cupen on 3 March 2013, followed by a league appearance against Helsingborgs IF later that month. During his inaugural season, he earned recognition as one of the league's top talents before transferring to F.C. Copenhagen in July 2014 for a reported €2.5 million.

Premier League Success with Leicester City

Joining Leicester City in January 2016 for approximately £6 million, Amartey became part of the squad that secured the Premier League title during the 2015–16 season. He gained significant first-team minutes in subsequent campaigns, including appearances in the Champions League and Europa League. Despite suffering a major ankle injury in October 2018, he recovered to contribute to the team's 2021 FA Cup victory and the 2021 FA Community Shield win.

International and Turkish Tenures

Amartey's international career includes participating in multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, notably reaching the final in 2015 and achieving a fourth-place finish in 2017, where he was named to the CAF Team of the Tournament. Following his departure from Leicester in June 2023, he signed with the Turkish club Beşiktaş. His time in Turkey concluded when the club terminated his contract in September 2024.
