O'Neill developed a career in finance, serving as a partner and head of research at Noster Capital. His professional background also includes tenure at NM Rothschild and Sons and Steinberg Asset Management. Upon his engagement to Princess Madeleine, strict requirements regarding his business interests emerged. To avoid conflicts of interest, he was required to ensure his fund divested from companies trading on the Stockholm Stock Exchange and entities with significant sales within Sweden, which ultimately led to his resignation from Noster Capital.

Royal Connection and Citizenship

In January 2011, O'Neill and Princess Madeleine made their first public appearance. Their wedding took place on 8 June 2013 at the Royal Chapel, Stockholm Palace. Despite his marriage, O'Neill declined Swedish citizenship, which prevents him from holding royal titles or undertaking official royal duties. He is identified by the Royal Court as Herr Christopher O'Neill and continues his private financial pursuits while residing in various international locations, including moves between New York, London, and Florida.

Honours and Family

King Carl XVI Gustaf conferred the Commander of the Royal Order of the Polar Star upon O'Neill in 2013. He has also received the Commemorative Ruby Jubilee Medal, the 70th Birthday Badge Medal, and the Golden Jubilee Badge Medal of King Carl XVI Gustaf, in addition to the Grand Knight's Cross of the Order of the Falcon from Iceland. He and Princess Madeleine have three children: Princess Leonore, born in 2014; Prince Nicolas, born in 2015; and Princess Adrienne, born in 2018.
