Early Itineraries and Cultural Adoption
Before his emergence in film, Doyle lived as a nomadic laborer, working as a cow herder in Israel and an oil driller in India. He studied the language in Taipei and eventually adopted the name Dù Kěfēng, meaning 'like the wind.' During this formative period, he met Stan Lai and Ding Nai-chu at a Taipei restaurant called Idea House.

Doyle gained prominence for his extensive work on over 50 Chinese-language films. His collaboration with director Wong Kar-wai yielded a series of critically recognized projects, including Days of Being Wild, Chungking Express, Fallen Angels, Happy Together, In the Mood for Love, and 2046. Beyond his partnerships with Wong, he contributed his photography to various other Chinese productions such as Temptress Moon, Hero, and the film Dumplings.
International Cinematography and Direction
Doyle’s portfolio includes more than 20 films produced in languages other than Chinese. He served as the director of photography for Gus Van Sant's remake of Psycho and worked on projects including Liberty Heights, Last Life in the Universe, Rabbit-Proof Fence, Paranoid Park, and The Limits of Control. As a director, he helmed Warsaw Dark and Away with Words, while co-directing The White Girl with Jenny Suen.
Documentation and Recognition
In addition to his film credits, Doyle is a prolific photographer and author of multiple monographs and behind-the-scenes books. His written works include Angel Talk, Backlit by the Moon, and the journal Don't Cry for Me, Argentina. For his career achievements, he received the Pierre Angénieux ExcelLens in Cinematography award at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.
