Charles Leclerc

Monegasque racing driver

Competitive karting at age seven set the trajectory for Charles Leclerc, a Monégasque racing driver who emerged from the streets of Monte Carlo to secure a permanent seat at the pinnacle of motorsport. Since his Formula One debut in 2018, he has become a defining figure for Ferrari, consistently challenging for championship titles and breaking long-standing national racing records.

Early Development and Karting

Born on 16 October 1997, Leclerc was raised in Monte Carlo. His introduction to racing began at a circuit in Brignoles owned by the father of his future mentor, Jules Bianchi. Throughout his formative years, he dominated regional and national categories, notably winning the French Championship and the Bridgestone Cup in the Cadet class by 2009. His performance in international junior competition, including victory at the 2011 CIK-FIA junior World Cup, caught the attention of manager Nicolas Todt. By 2012, his senior karting tenure with ART Grand Prix established a fierce, lifelong professional rivalry with Max Verstappen.

Ascent Through Junior Formulae

Transitioning to open-wheel racing in 2014, Leclerc entered Formula Renault 2.0. His rapid progress continued through 2015 in the FIA European Formula 3 series. In 2016, he secured the GP3 Series championship with ART, followed by an immediate victory in the inaugural FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2017 while driving for Prema. This achievement made him only the fourth driver to capture the F2 title during a rookie season, reinforcing his status as a top-tier prospect within the Ferrari Driver Academy.

Formula One Career with Ferrari

Leclerc entered Formula One with Sauber in 2018 before joining Ferrari in 2019. His early tenure with the Scuderia saw him earn the nickname 'il Predestinato' after ending a nine-year victory drought for the team at the 2019 Italian Grand Prix. In 2022, he finished as the championship runner-up to Max Verstappen. A significant milestone occurred in 2024 when he won the Monaco Grand Prix, marking the first time a Monégasque driver had claimed the race in 93 years. As of the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix, his record includes nine race wins and 54 podium finishes.

Artistic Pursuits

Beyond the racetrack, Leclerc explored creative interests, specifically in music. In 2024, he collaborated with pianist Sofiane Pamart to produce an extended play titled Dreamers. The project achieved commercial success, reaching number two on the Billboard Classical Albums chart, demonstrating his capacity to engage in professional endeavors outside of the automotive industry.
