Caeleb Remel Dressel, born in 1996 in Orange Park, Florida, established himself as a dominant force in international competitive swimming through his mastery of freestyle, butterfly, and individual medley events. As a nine-time Olympic gold medalist, he remains one of the most decorated American sprinters in the history of the sport, setting numerous records across both short and long course disciplines.
Early Development and Collegiate Success
Raised in Green Cove Springs, Dressel began swimming at age four and committed to the sport by age eight. He attended Clay High School and trained with the Bolles School Sharks in Jacksonville. Transitioning to collegiate competition at the University of Florida in 2014, he majored in Resources and Conservation while competing for the Florida Gators. In 2015, he secured his first NCAA title in the 50-yard freestyle, setting a national age-group record. By 2016, he established new American and US Open records in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events.

Dressel first gained international attention at the 2013 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Dubai, where he earned six medals, including gold in the 100-meter freestyle. His performance broke a national age-group record previously held by Michael Phelps. By the 2017 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, he secured a record seven gold medals. He followed this with significant performances at the 2018 World Short Course Championships in Hangzhou and the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju, where he earned eight medals, six of which were gold.
Olympic Performance
At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Dressel won his first Olympic gold as part of the 4x100-meter freestyle relay. He expanded his success at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, winning five gold medals and becoming the first male swimmer to secure gold in the 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter freestyle, and 100-meter butterfly at a single Games. At the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, he added two more gold medals in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay and the 4x100-meter mixed medley relay.
