Caroline Catherine Müller, performing as C. C. Catch, entered the music industry in 1983 as a member of the West German girl quartet Optimal. Her professional identity became defined by an extensive collaboration with Dieter Bohlen, which launched her solo career in the mid-1980s and resulted in a succession of pop hits across European markets.
Early Career and Collaboration
Born in Oss, Netherlands, in 1964, Müller relocated to West Germany with her family during the late 1970s. Her father, Peter Müller, managed her early ventures, including her tenure in Optimal, which produced the 1983 single Er War Magnetisch. While performing in Hamburg, she met Dieter Bohlen, who secured her a contract with BMG. This partnership established the stage name C. C. Catch and yielded twelve singles and four albums between 1985 and 1989. Her debut solo single, I Can Lose My Heart Tonight, reached the top 20 in several countries.

Seeking greater creative input, Müller concluded her professional relationship with Bohlen and BMG in 1989, eventually pursuing legal action to retain the rights to her performing name. She subsequently signed with Metronome, a subsidiary of PolyGram, under the management of Simon Napier-Bell. In 1989, she released the album Hear What I Say, which featured production work by Andy Taylor, Dave Clayton, and Jo Dworniak. This release marked a shift in her career, as she co-wrote seven of the tracks, demonstrating a move toward increased artistic control.
Later Projects and Touring
Following a period of inactivity during the early 1990s, Müller focused on song writing and spiritual practice. She collaborated with Peter Gabriel on the song Harmonix, which appeared on the 1993 Jam Nation album Way Down Below Buffalo Hell. Her later work includes the 2003 single Shake Your Head, which reached the top 12 in Spain, and participation in the 2004 television show Comeback - Die Big Chance. She continued to tour internationally, with performances in the United States, Canada, and South America between 2015 and 2017. In July 2024, she released the single Heal Me, produced by Luis Rodriguez.
