Early Life and Education

While in London, Molko reconnected with former school acquaintance Stefan Olsdal at South Kensington tube station. This meeting facilitated the formation of the band Placebo. Alongside original drummer Steve Hewitt, the group gained visibility through their music and a notable appearance in the 1998 film Velvet Goldmine, where Molko portrayed a glam rock musician named Malcolm.

Molko is known for an androgynous aesthetic that challenged conventional expectations early in his career. His songwriting explores themes including bisexuality and mental health, often referencing the influence of pharmaceutical substances.
