Born in 1813 in Buda, Sicard von Sicardsburg received his early formal education at Stiftsgymnasium Melk. He later pursued architecture at TU Wien, where he studied under Peter von Nobile. By 1843, he transitioned into an academic role, becoming a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Throughout his tenure, he influenced a new generation of builders, most notably counting Karl Freiherr von Hasenauer among his students.

The partnership between Sicard von Sicardsburg and Eduard van der Nüll produced several prominent structures. Their portfolio included the Schutzengelbrunnen fountain, completed between 1843 and 1846, and the Sofiensaal in 1845. The duo also designed the Carltheater from 1846 to 1847 and the Arsenal complex, which was under construction from 1849 until 1855. Their work extended to private and commercial buildings, such as the Palais Larisch-Mönich and the original Haas-Haus.
The Vienna State Opera and Final Years
The Vienna State Opera, designed by the team beginning in 1861, remains their most enduring work. Neither architect lived to witness the building's inauguration in 1869. Sicard von Sicardsburg died in 1868 in Klosterneuburg due to tuberculosis. His death followed that of van der Nüll by only six weeks. He is buried at the Grinzing Cemetery, leaving behind a legacy that includes contributions to the Industriepalast for the 1873 World Exposition.
