After assuming control of his father Jean-Luc Lagardère’s day-to-day operations in 2001, Arnaud Lagardère directed the group toward a pure media focus. This strategy involved significant acquisitions in the book publishing sector, including interests in Editis, Houghton Mifflin, and Warner Books. By 2006, the firm expanded into sports and entertainment, eventually forming Lagardère Sports and Entertainment in 2015. This division integrated acquisitions such as Sportfive, IEC in Sports, and World Sport Group.
External Directorships
Beyond his immediate family firm, Lagardère maintained various external board roles. He served as a director for France Télécom from 2003 to 2008 and LVMH from 2003 to 2009. His involvement in the aeronautics and defense sectors included a role on the board of EADS N.V. from 2003 to 2013, where he served as chairman of the board starting in 2012.
