The certificate of Righteous Among the Nations was issued to Anna Stupnicka-Bando and her mother in 1983, documenting their efforts to shelter Jewish individuals in Warsaw. Born in Końskie in 1929, she transitioned from a youth marked by the turbulence of occupation to a career in medicine, eventually serving as the president of the Polish Association of the Righteous Among the Nations.
Wartime Experience
Before the occupation, Stupnicka-Bando resided in the Żoliborz district of Warsaw with her mother, Janina Stupnicka, and her grandmother. In the winter of 1941, she and her mother facilitated the rescue of a Jewish girl named Liliana Alter from the ghetto. Alter lived with the family under the alias Krysia Wójcik. During this period, the household also provided shelter to Ryszard Grynberg and Mikołaj Borenstein. After the destruction of their home in 1954, Stupnicka-Bando pursued formal education, ultimately graduating from the Medical University of Warsaw with a specialization in neurology.

Stupnicka-Bando spent her professional life as a physician and neurologist. Her clinical work was anchored at the Central Railway Hospital. In addition to her hospital duties, she operated a private neurological clinic. Her career coincided with significant involvement in veteran affairs; she was an active participant in the Wawer veterans' circle, where she served on the board and managed administrative operations for local veterans.
Public Service and Recognition
Stupnicka-Bando assumed the presidency of the Polish Association of the Righteous Among the Nations in 2014. Her public profile includes a 2009 visit to the United States, where she met with President Barack Obama. She has received numerous state honors, including the Commander of the Order of Polonia Restituta in 2008, the Pro Patria Medal in 2017, the Pro Bono Poloniae Medal in 2018, and the Medal of the Centenary of Regained Independence in 2018.
