The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, saw Anastasia Nichita secure a silver medal in the women's 57 kg freestyle wrestling event. Born in 1999 in Tătărești, Moldova, she has maintained a dual path as both an elite athlete and a political figure, serving as a member of the Parliament of Moldova for the 2025-2026 term.

Wrestling Career Trajectory

Nichita began her international ascent at the 2018 European U23 Wrestling Championship in Istanbul, taking silver. Her progress continued through 2019 with podium finishes at the European Championships in Bucharest and the European Games in Minsk. By 2020, she captured gold at the European Wrestling Championships in Rome after defeating Bilyana Dudova. She also secured gold at the Individual Wrestling World Cup in Belgrade the same year.

Continental and World Dominance

In 2022, Nichita achieved her most significant global milestone by winning gold in the 59 kg event at the World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade, where she overcame Grace Bullen. Her technical proficiency has resulted in three European Championship gold medals. Further victories include success at the Yasar Dogu Tournament in Turkey and the European U23 Championships in Bulgaria. By the 2023 Zagreb Open and the European Championships in Croatia, she solidified her reputation through consistent final-round performances, including a walkover win against Yuliya Tkach.

Olympic Competition and Public Service

She represented Moldova at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, competing in the 57 kg class. Following her Olympic silver in Paris, she entered the political sphere. Nichita holds an educational background from the State University of Physical Education and Sport as well as the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova. In 2022, the state recognized her athletic contributions with the Order of Honour.
