She received the Medal of the Order of Australia in 1997 and was voted Best Female Hockey Player in the World in 1999. In 2013, she was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame. Following her retirement from international play, Annan moved to the Netherlands and competed for HC Klein Zwitserland in The Hague. She transitioned into coaching, leading the same club starting in 2003. In 2004, she served as an assistant to Marc Lammers when the Dutch team secured a silver medal at the Athens Olympic Games. In October 2015, she became head coach of the Netherlands women's national team, leading them to a silver medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In 2021, she was named a Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau.

Annan publicly acknowledged differences regarding the approach to team objectives but did not comment further on the investigation. Several experienced players supported her tenure, expressing that they had not been consulted during the termination process. Following this period, she accepted the role of head coach for the China women's national field hockey team in 2022.
