The international breakthrough of Constanța-born singer Alexandra Stan arrived in 2010 with the release of the hit single Mr. Saxobeat. Written by producers Marcel Prodan and Andrei Nemirschi, the track sold nearly one million copies within its first year and eventually secured a Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America, establishing a high-water mark for Romanian pop music globally.
Early Development and Breakthrough
Born in 1989, Alexandra Ioana Stan participated in various music contests during her youth, including the 2009 Mamaia Music Festival. After producers Marcel Prodan and Andrei Nemirschi discovered her at a local karaoke bar, she signed with Maan Records. Her debut single, Lollipop (Param Pam Pam), garnered moderate attention in Romania, providing the foundation for the subsequent success of Mr. Saxobeat, which topped the Romanian Top 100 for eight weeks and earned her an MTV Europe Music Award for Best Romanian Act in 2011.

Following the release of her 2011 debut studio album Saxobeats, which included singles like Get Back (ASAP) and Lemonade, Stan's career experienced a shift during 2013. A publicized legal dispute involving allegations of assault and blackmail against her manager, Marcel Prodan, occurred during this period. After a hiatus, she returned to the music industry by signing with Fonogram Records and releasing the 2014 album Unlocked, which saw notable performance in the Japanese market through tracks such as Cherry Pop and Dance.
Expanding Collaborative Projects
Stan's third studio album, Alesta, was released in March 2016, featuring the collaboration We Wanna with Inna and Daddy Yankee. Her discography continued to expand with the 2018 record Mami and the 2022 album Rainbows. Beyond solo work, she contributed to Manuel Riva's single Miami, which achieved top-ten status in Romania and appeared on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. Additionally, she provided the voice for the character Inger in the Romanian dub of the animated film Atlantis: Milo's Return.
