Academic and Early Professional Foundations

Elected as a member of the European Parliament in 2004, Stubb focused on budgetary control and internal market committees. In 2008, he became Minister for Foreign Affairs, followed by a tenure as Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade beginning in 2011. He assumed the role of Prime Minister in 2014, heading a five-party coalition government. Following the 2015 parliamentary elections, he transitioned to the position of Minister of Finance until 2016. He eventually left domestic politics to work at the European Investment Bank and as a professor at the European University Institute.

Stubb returned to electoral politics in 2023, announcing his candidacy for the presidency. Upon his 2024 election victory, he became the first Finland-Swedish president elected to the office.
