Alberto Del Rio

Mexican professional wrestler

The 2011 calendar year marked a unique achievement for the wrestler known as Alberto Del Rio, as he became the only professional to win both the Royal Rumble and the Money in the Bank ladder match within the same period. This milestone solidified his standing as a major force in the industry, following his extensive experience in both amateur and professional circuits.

Amateur Foundations and Early Training

Born on 25 May 1977 in San Luis Potosí, José Alberto Rodríguez Chucuan emerged from a prominent Mexican wrestling family. He pursued Greco-Roman wrestling under the guidance of Leonel Kolesni and Juan Fernández. His amateur career included a third-place finish at the 1997 World Junior Championships in the Czech Republic, three victories at the Central American and Caribbean Games, and a medal at the Pan American Games. While he prepared for the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, the lack of funding for a national team prevented his participation.

Championship Success and Global Promotions

After departing CMLL, the wrestler performed for various organizations including Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, Ring of Honor, and Lucha Underground. In international competition, he achieved the status of the first Mexican wrestler to win the WWE Championship and the World Heavyweight Championship twice. Beyond these titles, his resume includes two reigns as the United States Champion, the Impact World Championship, and the AAA Mega Championship, which he captured for a second time in 2023.

Academic and Family Background

Outside of the ring, Rodríguez completed his education at the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí, where he earned a degree in architecture.
