🇺🇸 Katrinnah Harding

Second-year law student at 17

WSFA 12 News reported on 19 May 2020 that a Montgomery teenager was on track to be the youngest lawyer in Alabama history. Katrinnah Harding was then 17 and already in the second year of a law degree at Faulkner University, the private university in Montgomery whose law school is named for Thomas Goode Jones.

The ABA Journal covered the same family story the following day, reporting that a law graduate aged 19 could become the youngest lawyer in modern Alabama history. Which sibling that particular graduate was is not resolved by the records gathered here, and this page does not guess.

The Brainy Bunch

Kip and Mona Lisa Harding homeschooled ten children in Montgomery, Alabama, and most of them started college by the age of twelve. The family wrote the method up in a book, The Brainy Bunch: The Harding Family's Method to College Ready by Twelve, which is where the nickname comes from.

That makes Katrinnah's case unusual in a specific way. She is not an isolated prodigy but a member of a system: a household that had already run the same process several times before it reached her, with the paperwork, the community college credits and the university admissions worked out in advance.

Following her brother

Her brother Seth preceded her into law, and that sequence is the whole logic of the family's approach. The first child through a route proves it can be done; the next follows a mapped path with fewer obstacles.

It is also why the Alabama record kept coming up in the coverage. A state's youngest-lawyer record is broken by whoever is admitted to the bar earliest, and a family producing law students in consecutive years is in a position to break it more than once.

What the record leaves open

The reporting gathered here is from a single week in May 2020. It establishes that she was a second-year law student at 17 and that the youngest-lawyer question was live. It does not establish what happened next.

Whether Katrinnah Harding completed the degree, sat the Alabama bar examination, was admitted, or in fact became the state's youngest lawyer is not recorded in these sources. Any page that states one of those outcomes is going beyond the documented record, and this one will not.
