A degree at thirteen

The Mexican record begins with an assessment at the age of three, which identified her as gifted, and with an education that ran at several times the normal speed: primary school completed in one year, secondary and preparatory compressed, and a university degree in psychology finished at thirteen.

Infobae covered her at each stage, describing her in November 2017 as the world's youngest psychologist and returning to the subject in August 2022. The title is a press description rather than a professional register entry, but the underlying qualification, a completed undergraduate degree in psychology at that age, is what the coverage documents.

Harvard, and the claim attached to it

In February 2019 Infobae reported that she had become the youngest Mexican, and the youngest student in a hundred years, admitted to Harvard. She went to study for a master's degree in mathematics for teaching.

The choice of subject is the interesting part. A psychologist known for her own acceleration went to Harvard not to study giftedness in the abstract but to study how mathematics is taught, which is the practical end of the same problem: what a school system actually does with a child who is ahead of the timetable.

The centre in Mexico City

By 2022 Infobae described her as a doctoral student in education who helps run CEDAT, a centre for gifted children in Mexico City, and who wants to change Mexican education. That is the through line of her adult career: not a series of records but an institution that assesses and teaches children like the one she was.

Mexico, like most countries, runs its schools on age cohorts. Programmes for children who fall outside them are scarce, privately funded and concentrated in the capital, which is the gap CEDAT occupies.

Where Dafne Almazán is now

The most recent account used for this page is the Infobae feature of August 2022: doctoral studies in education, work at CEDAT, and a stated ambition to reform how Mexican schools handle gifted pupils.

One other project sits in the record. In December 2020 Infobae reported that her life was to be made into a Netflix biopic. The sources used here do not report whether the film was completed or released, and this page does not assume that it was.

Why her case is argued over

Radical acceleration is the most contested practice in gifted education. Critics argue that a thirteen-year-old in a university lecture theatre is being deprived of an adolescence; supporters answer that a bored child in a classroom five years behind their ability is being deprived of an education. Almazán is unusual in having lived the experiment and then gone on to study it professionally.

That is also why the superlatives around her name deserve care. The claim that she was the youngest Harvard admission in a hundred years comes from press reporting rather than from the university, and geniuses.club reports it as a claim made by Infobae, not as a verified institutional record.
