His own account of what followed is the most quoted thing he has said: I have been able to see such incredible things since the gene therapy — like the moon, the stars, the sunsets, fireworks, snow falling. It is a list a sighted person would never think to make.
American Idol, five years later
In March 2022, at 21, he auditioned for the twentieth season of American Idol with A Song for You, the Donny Hathaway standard. The judges stood. Lionel Richie embraced him and said, we found him. Guardino took the golden ticket to Hollywood.
