The night of the Golden Buzzer
Talent Recap reported the audition on 10 July 2019. Luke, then 12, chose "She Used to Be Mine", the best-known song from Waitress. The choice was daring for a reason he could not have controlled: members of the Broadway production were in the room, including the songwriter Sara Bareilles, the cast member Jessie Hooker-Bailey and the touring lead Christine Dwyer.
Julianne Hough hit the Golden Buzzer, the show's signal that an act goes straight forward, and told him: "I believe that not only are you going to become a star and get your dream to come true, but I don't think you need to wait that much longer." The reaction from the Waitress company was published alongside the performance. Bareilles said she was "going to be weeping forever and ever". Hooker-Bailey wrote: "So moved. We love your heart and that voice!!!!" Dwyer wrote that she was "honestly considering quitting and also inconsolably crying".
How far he went
The Golden Buzzer carried Luke into the live rounds of season 14. The season results table on Wikipedia, used as a secondary reference for this page, records that he reached the semi-finals rather than the final ten.
That is a common shape for a Golden Buzzer act. The buzzer guarantees a place, not a result; from that point the competition runs on public votes across an unusually large field, and a 12-year-old singer competes against magicians, choirs and acrobats for the same audience. What the moment did guarantee was a clip that travelled far beyond the broadcast.
From the AGT stage to a film set
In May 2023 Talent Recap reported that Luke appeared in the trailer for "Theater Camp", the comedy set at a summer theatre programme and featuring Ben Platt. In August 2023 the same outlet reported that the film was getting a digital release, widening its audience beyond cinemas.
The move is a neat closing of the circle for a child whose television breakthrough came from a Broadway song: the reward for a talent-show audition was not a record deal but a part in a film about the world the song came from.
What is known since
The sources gathered for this page stop in August 2023. Nothing here documents what Luke has released, performed or studied since then, and no source states his date of birth; the research record gives a birth year of 2007, consistent with being 12 in July 2019.
His hometown is listed in the research record as Garden City, New York. Beyond the audition, the semi-final run and the film, the material is thin, and this page does not fill the space with assumptions about a performer who was a child when the cameras found him.
Veinte preguntas, ocho minutos de reloj y un percentil medido frente a todos los que la han hecho. Sin registro.
Hacer la prueba de CI →Why the moment lasted
Golden Buzzer auditions are engineered for feeling, and most are forgotten within a season. This one held because of the audience: the people who made the song professionally sat and listened to a seventh-grader sing it, and then said publicly that he had moved them.
That is the rarest currency in a talent show, and it is the reason his name is still searched years later, usually alongside two questions, how old he was and what happened next. The answers, as far as the record goes, are twelve, and a film called "Theater Camp".
