The Harding method, set out in their book The Brainy Bunch: The Harding Family's Method to College Ready by Twelve, is exactly what the subtitle says. The children were homeschooled and entered college classes as young adolescents rather than as teenagers, and most of the ten followed the same route.

Serennah took it to a medical degree. Graduating from Huntingdon College at 17 puts a student in medical school at an age when most people are starting an undergraduate degree, and it compresses an entire decade of training into the years other students spend choosing a major.

Physician and naval officer

She qualified as an osteopathic physician, a DO rather than an MD, with the degree attributed by list sites to the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine's Georgia campus in 2013, and a residency in internal medicine at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

She then served in the United States Navy. WSFA reported in May 2020 — in a story about another Harding sibling, on track to be the youngest lawyer in Alabama history — that she had reached the rank of lieutenant commander.

The age problem

This is where the record needs care. Aggregator lists of the youngest doctors state that she qualified at 18. The research record notes that the ages given for her medical degree conflict across those lists, with figures around 23 also appearing, and flags the whole question as unverified.

The arithmetic is worth doing. A student who graduates college at 17 and completes a four-year medical programme finishes at about 21 or 22. A qualification at 18 would require something faster still. The honest position is that the college dates are documented and the age at qualification is not.

The Brainy Bunch

Kip and Mona Lisa Harding homeschooled ten children in Montgomery, Alabama, and most started college by twelve. The family published its method as a book, and the siblings have appeared in local and national coverage individually as they have qualified — a doctor, a lawyer, and others.
