A fourth medal

The 2024 championship ran from 21 to 23 September with 84 competitors from 14 nations. In the under-20 senior division Maheshwari scored 2,515 out of a possible 2,866, behind Abhilakshya Arora of India on 2,730 and Walid Ksentini of Algeria on 2,580.

The organisers recorded two things about that result: it was her fourth medal at the championship, and it was her highest score ever. In a sport where most competitors appear once or twice and vanish, four medals across multiple years is a career rather than a result.

Winning the alumni division

The 2026 championship, held in Bielefeld from 4 to 7 September with 99 competitors from 15 nations, included an alumni division for former junior competitors. Maheshwari won it with 2,691 points, ahead of Mohammed El-Mir of Lebanon on 2,583 and Deepak Nagar of India on 2,178.

The organisers made the obvious point about that category: its competitors have professional responsibilities and must fit championship preparation around everything else. Alumni are not competing on a school timetable; they are training in whatever hours a job leaves them, against opponents who once did nothing else.

What the competitors do

The championship is contested across fixed tasks: addition problems, square-root identification, calendar calculations, and fractions and multiplication, each scored against a published maximum. That design makes the results directly comparable between competitors, divisions and years.

It also makes a score meaningful on its own. A total of 2,515 against a ceiling of 2,866 says precisely how much of a demanding paper a competitor completed under time pressure — more information than a medal colour carries. Two competitors separated by one place on the podium may be separated by a single correct answer, or by three hundred points.

India in the discipline

India is one of the sport's strongest nations. Indian competitors won the under-20 division in 2024 and finished second in 2026; Indian competitors appear on podiums across the age groups in the years covered here, and the 2024 senior World Cup was won by Aaryan Shukla of India.

Maheshwari's record sits inside that system and stands out within it, because she has stayed. Most junior calculators age out of the sport at twenty and are never heard of again; she moved into the alumni category and won it, against a field that included a five-time junior world champion from Lebanon.

What is documented — and what is not

Documented: the 2024 under-20 bronze with 2,515 points, described by the organisers as her fourth medal and her best score, and the 2026 alumni gold with 2,691 points.

Not documented in these sources: her age, her birth year, her home city, her studies or profession, and the years and divisions of her earlier three medals beyond the fact of them. This page reports the published scoreboards and nothing beyond them, because for a competitor who is still young that is the responsible limit.
