The record, read correctly

Multiple blindfolded results are written in a form that carries three numbers at once. Siggins's reads 63/65 in 58:23: sixty-five cubes attempted, sixty-three of them solved correctly, in fifty-eight minutes and twenty-three seconds.

The event sits among the blindfolded variants recognised by the World Cube Association, which lists 17 official events in total. The published record was set at Please Be Quiet Reno 2025, held on 18 October 2025, and remained the standing mark when the rankings were checked on 31 August 2026.

Why two cubes short still sets a record

A blindfolded attempt is scored on what survives. Two of the sixty-five cubes came out wrong, and the result still stands as the best in the world, because the discipline measures how many a competitor can hold and finish rather than demanding perfection.

The time matters as much as the count. Every cube has to be memorised before the blindfold goes on, and the whole attempt, memorisation and solving together, was completed in under an hour. Sixty-five separate scrambles held in a single session, then reproduced without sight, is a feat of memory as much as of hands.

A different sport from speed solving

Speed solving is measured in seconds. The one-handed world-record single stands at 5.62 seconds, set by Patrick Ponce in August 2026, and the 2019 world championship was won with a 6.74-second average. Blindfolded events are measured in minutes, and in memory rather than finger speed.

The two disciplines share a governing body and a rulebook but almost nothing else. What they have in common is verification: every result is set at a sanctioned competition, judged on the spot and published centrally, which is why a speedcubing record can be quoted with a date, a venue and a number rather than a claim.

Who ratifies it

The World Cube Association was founded on 18 October 2004 by Ron van Bruchem of the Netherlands and Tyson Mao of the United States, with the stated aim of more competitions in more countries under fair and equal conditions. It ratifies and publishes every official record.

The scale behind that system is considerable. As of August 2026 the association had registered more than 290,000 competitors across over 17,500 official competitions in more than 100 countries, overseen by 464 delegates and 112 committee members.

What is documented - and what is not

The sources used here are secondary encyclopaedia entries that cite the World Cube Association's own record tables. The association's competitor profile for Siggins could not be read for this page, which is a limitation worth stating plainly.

No birth year, age, home city, occupation or wider competition history appears in the sources used here. The record itself is precise to the second, and everything about the person who set it is undocumented in these pages. That asymmetry, exact results and an absent biography, is the normal condition of the sport.
