Admitted at twelve
The University of Ghana, at Legon outside Accra, is the country's oldest and largest university, founded in 1948. In October 2019 it admitted a 12-year-old to study public administration. The Ghanaian Times reported the admission; GhanaWeb ran a profile; Vanguard carried it to Nigerian readers; and OkayAfrica took it to an international audience.
The entry route mattered as much as the age. Ghanaian universities admit on the West African Senior School Certificate Examination, the regional qualification normally taken at 17 or 18, or on equivalent international results. Bamfo arrived with the paperwork in order, which is why the story was an admissions story rather than a special case.
Taught at home by his father
His father, Robert Bamfo, taught him at home, working through the Cambridge international syllabus and the WASSCE curriculum. That is a demanding combination: one is designed for British-pattern examinations, the other for the West African board, and covering both means a parent running two parallel curricula in a single household.
It also explains the compression. Without year groups, a child who works at his own pace can reach examination standard several years before his age cohort, and Ghana's system places no minimum age on university entry once the certificates are in hand.
What he said he wanted
Asked about his plans, Bamfo told reporters he wanted to become president of Ghana. OkayAfrica recorded the ambition, and it is the line that made the story travel: public administration is not an abstract choice for a boy who has already named the office he is aiming at.
It should be read as a 12-year-old's stated ambition and nothing more. It is quoted here because he said it publicly, not because it forecasts anything.
How far the story travelled
The BBC covered him, a fact GhanaWeb thought notable enough to write a second article about, under the heading of how the BBC captured the story of the 12-year-old Ghanaian who had just earned university admission.
That second-order coverage, a Ghanaian outlet reporting on foreign reporting, is a familiar pattern in African prodigy stories. It measures something real: the point at which a national item becomes an international one, and the child at its centre acquires a search history in several countries at once.

اخوض اختبار الذكاء →Where the record stops
None of the sources used here follows Bamfo past the 2019 admission. There is no graduation report, no examination result, no later interview and no confirmation of what he is doing now. A boy who was 12 in 2019 would be about 19 as this page is written, which is roughly the age at which his Ghanaian contemporaries would be starting the degree he began seven years earlier.
The honest position is that the admission is well documented and everything after it is not. Early university entry in West Africa is reported vigorously at the point of admission and rarely followed up, which means the public record for students such as Bamfo tends to consist of a single bright moment and then silence. Where a later source appears, this page will say so; until then, the admission at 12 and the home education that produced it are what can be stated.
